WINDSOR LOCKS, Jan. 25 – Chavon George scored eight of his game-high 15 points as the Windsor Locks boys basketball team handed Canton their first league loss of the season Wednesday night with a 47-38 victory in North Central Connecticut Conference play.

The Warriors (9-2, 8-1 NCCC) scored a season-low 38 points and just seven points in the fourth quarter. “It wasn’t the best of games for us,” Canton coach Craig Archambault said. “We really struggled to attack on offense and were very flat offensively – not aggressive.”

Tim Keating led the Warriors with 11 points while Luke Brown added 10. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak by the Warriors. Canton still holds a half game lead over SMSA (9-2, 7-1 NCCC) and Hartford Classical (8-2, 7-1 NCCC) in the league. Windsor Locks (7-4, 7-2 NCCC) is just a game back of the Warriors.

“Our defense kept us in it,” Archambault said. “Windsor Locks made more plays than us down the stretch. We didn’t take care of the basketball and execute in the final minutes. We had a few very costly turnovers late.”

Canton was in the game until the end. A pair of three-point shots from Mansur and Brown late in the third quarter gave the Warriors a 30-27 lead with 3:07 left in the quarter. Canton led, 31-29 after three quarters.

Canton led by one, 35-34, with 7:03 remaining with a basket from Ethan Burke. But Windsor Locks responded with a 6-0 surge to take a five-point lead with 3:11 remaining. A Keating foul shot with 2:09 left the Raiders lead to four and Burke sank two foul shots with 1:29 left in the game to cut the lead to two points, 40-38.

But that would be as close as Canton would get. The Raiders sank seven foul shots in the final 53 seconds to pull away and secure the victory.

Canton returns to the floor on Friday night when they travel to Suffield (8-3, 7-3 NCCC) for a 7 p.m. start. On Monday, the Warriors will travel to Winsted to face Gilbert (1-9) in a non-league contest. The game was originally scheduled for January 23 but was postponed by snow. Canton travels to Ellington (3-8) on Tuesday night, Jan. 31.
