The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 10-5, in front of 6,014 fans on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin’ Park. Roc Riggio and Zach Kokoska each belted two-run home runs in the late innings, while Dyan Jorge stole his 37th base of the season, setting a new career high. Aiden Longwell had three hits for the Yard Goats who are off until next Friday for the All-Star break. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park on July 28. Trailing by nine runs (10-1), the Yard Goats mounted a late comeback in the eighth inning. After Dyan Jorge reached base on a walk then stole his 37th base, Roc Riggio launched a two-run home run into the right-field stands to cut the deficit to 10-3. Moments later, Zach Kokoska followed with a two-run homer to nearly the same spot in right field, scoring Jack O’Dowd and trimming the lead to 10-5.

The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 9-2, in front of 7,038 fans on Saturday night at Dunkin’ Park. Yard Goats starter, Jackson Cox, fired six innings, allowing just one run on one hit with nine strikeouts. Hartford had a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning before the Rumble Ponies scored the next eight runs. Andy Perez and Dyan Jorge each drove in a run for the Yard Goats, while Ben McCabe recorded a key double. Cox retired 18 of 21 batters including the side in order three times in his six inning effort. He allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out nine and left with a 2-1 lead.

Tied at 2-2, Binghamton broke the game open in the ninth inning. Kevin Parada gave the Rumble Ponies the lead with an infield RBI single that scored Nick Lorusso before Nick Lucky added an RBI single to right field. Jaylen Palmer followed with a bases-clearing three-run double to left field, Chris Suero drove in another run on a ground-ball single to center field, and Lorusso capped the seven-run inning with an RBI double to right field, extending the lead to 9-2.

Barry Coffey and Augustine Williams each found the net as Hartford Athletic took a 2-1 victory against Westchester SC in Group 5 of the Prinx Tires USL Cup at Trinity Health Stadium to clinch first place in the group and a place in the quarterfinals for the defending USL Cup titleholders. The Athletic, the defending USL Cup champion, advances to the quarterfinal with the win. Hartford struck early as Barry Coffey found a loose ball deep in the crease and tapped it home, giving the hosts a 1-0 edge in the 14th minute. It was his third straight goal for Hartford (3-0-1 Group 5) this week. Augi Williams doubled Athletic’s lead in the 42nd minute, sending a long ball on goal that made its way over the goal line. Westchester is a USL League One squad. They finished 0-3-1 in the group.

Shorthanded Connecticut got 14 points from Diamond Miller and 11 points from Aaliyah Edwards as the Sun (5-18) dropped their second straight game with a 79-64 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. Connecticut was missing Brittney Griner (left quad strain), Aneesha Morrow (reconditioning) and Saniya Rivers (left ankle sprain). Former Sun G Veronica Burton scored 17 points while Janelle Salaun had 16 points to lead Golden State (17-7) to a team-record seventh straight win. The Valkyries have won 11 of their last 13 games to move into a first place tie in the WNBA with Minnesota and Las Vegas.

The Hartford Yard Goats defeated the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 7-2, on Friday night at Dunkin’ Park in front of 6,687 fans. Hartford starter Jack Mahoney turned in one of his best outings of the season, tossing a season-high 7.2 innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits and striking out nine batters to earn his fifth victory. Braylen Wimmer had three hits including a triple and drove in two runs while Andy Perez added a two-run single, his league-leading 101st hit of the year.

Yard Goats pitcher Stu Flesland III struck out a season-high six batters and allowed just one baserunner through four innings but the Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7-3 on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Park. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the sixth inning but the Rumble Ponies scored four runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead. Flesland was spectacular in his third Double-A start as he allowed just one baserunner through the first four innings. He struck out a season-high six batters and retired the first nine batters in order.

Tim Beaulieu and Gabe Mainardi were each 2-3 while John Mascaro going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Simsbury had 11 hits in the game.

Kayla McBride had 23 points as the Minnesota Lynx avenged an earlier loss this week to the Sun with an 86-80 victory at Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday night. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve broke the WNBA record for most regular season wins (380), one more than former Sun and Mystics coach Mike Thibault. Reeve has led the Lynx to four WNBA titles. Natasha Howard had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota. Leila Lacan led the Sun (5-17) with 15 points, six assists and six rebounds while Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 14. Connecticut upset Minnesota on Monday night, 90-89.

The Hartford Yard Goats set a new franchise record for hits with 21 as they defeated the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 13-4 at Dunkin’ Park. The 21 hits broke the previous franchise record of 19. Jose Torres hit a pair of home runs and Andy Perez recorded four hits to become the first Eastern League player to record 100 hits this season. All nine starters for the Yard Goats recorded a hit. New York Mets outfielder Luis Robert Jr. went 2-4 with a pair of singles in a major league rehab appearance with Binghamton.

Thanks to a second-half brace from Barry Coffey, Hartford Athletic used a second-half surge to knot Orange County SC in United Soccer League Championship action. Orange County (7-2-7) took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute as Stephen Kelly secured the ball off of a cross and shot far side. They made it 2-0 in the 17th minute as Ousmane Sylla shuffled through several bodies out front and fired one home in the lower box. Following a spew of chances for Athletic to continue play in the second half, Coffey scored with a long shot that rippled twine, cutting the lead in half. In the 85th minute, Hartford (4-3-7) capitalized on a tic-tac-toe finish as Michee Ngalina tapped a header over to Coffey in the low box with Coffey sending it home for his second goal of the game. Goalie Antony Siaha registered four saves in goal for Hartford.

The Hartford Yard Goats fell to the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 10-4 in the opening game of a six-game series at Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday night. After trailing by four runs early, Hartford rallied to tie the game behind RBI hits from Andy Perez and Cole Messina before Binghamton erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to pull away. Perez finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Cade Denton delivered 4.1 scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts to keep the Yard Goats within striking distance. Binghamton struck first in the opening inning when JT Schwartz launched a two-run home run to right field off Hartford starter Griffin Herring, giving the Rumble Ponies an early 2-0 lead. Hartford pulled within one run in the sixth inning against reliever Felipe De La Cruz. Zach Kokoska reached on a bunt single before Messina drove an RBI single into right field, scoring Kokoska to make it a 4-3 game. The comeback was completed in the seventh inning. Hill led off with a double to left field, and Perez followed with a line-drive single to left, scoring Hill to even the score at 4-4. Binghamton answered with a decisive eight-run rally in the eighth inning.

Brittney Griner scored a season-high 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Kennedy Burke scored 16 points as the Sun upset Minnesota, the Western Conference leaders, on Monday night in WNBA action in Minneapolis. Lelia Lecan scored 14 for Connecticut. The Sun (5-16) have won three of their last four games while the Lynx (15-6) dropped their second straight contest. Kayla McBridge led Minnesota with 28 points while former Sun guard Courtney Williams scored 23.

Avon and Farmington held a joint celebration for America’s 250th anniversary on June 27 in Avon. Participants took photos in front of a giant flag. The Collinsville Press was a Silver Sponsor of the event.
