Enns has three hits including two doubles as Canton 9 top Locks in opener

CANTON, April 5 – Ryan Enns was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles to help lift the Canton High baseball team to a 7-5 NCCC victory over Windsor Locks Wednesday in the season opening contest at Bowdoin Field.

The Warriors (1-0, 1-0 NCCC) had eight hits and scored five runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control of the contest. Nate Fulham had a two-RBI single in the fifth inning to put Canton up by one run, 6-5. James Mattson’s RBI double in the sixth drove in Jack Mansur with an insurance run.

Tim Keating picked up the win in relief, going two innings, scattering four hits and striking out four. Canton starter Ethan Burke pitched four innings, allowed five hits and struck out four. He did walk five.

Mansur had a double for Canton while Brandon Peters and Keating each had singles.

It was Canton’s first win on opening day since 2013 and an 8-0 win over East Granby.

Head coach Greg Brisco is beginning his fifth season behind the bench for the Warriors, who finished 11-9 a year ago and earned their first CIAC Class S tournament berth since 2014 and only the second post-season invitation since 2010.

Canton returns to the diamond Monday when they travel to face Coventry at 4 p.m.
