Avon tops Simsbury to win District 6 title in Minor Division (ages 9-11)

AVON – The Avon Little League All-Star baseball team won the recent District 6 championship in the Minor Division (ages 9-11) with a 13-3 victory over Simsbury.

A day after suffering their first loss of the summer to Simsbury, 5-2, Avon rallied to capture their third District 6 championship in the 9-11 tournament in the last four years with a 10-run victory.

Avon went undefeated in the pool play portion of the D6 tournament with victories over Burlington, 9-8, Granby/East Granby, 14-2, Simsbury, 13-3 and Torrington, 14-4.

In the double-elimination portion of the tournament, Avon beat Torrington, 16-2 and Simsbury, 3-2 to earn a spot in the championship round.

After winning the District 6 title, Avon (7-3) advanced to the state tournament where they dropped a pair of close contests to Shelton, 8-3 and Wallingford, 11-10 in the Section II regional. Wallingford won Section II and advanced to the state championship game against Trumbull.

Avon won the District 6 Minor Division tournament (ages 9-11) for the third time in four years and the eighth time overall.
