AVON, May 26 – Thanks to a pair of one-point decisions over Canton and Lewis Mills on back-to-back days, the Avon High girls tennis team qualified for the CIAC Class M championship tournament for the first time since 2015 and the first time as a member of the Central Connecticut Conference.
With a pair of 4-3 victories over Canton and Lewis Mills, Avon earned an 8-8 record to secure a state tournament berth. Mercy eliminated the Falcons in the first round of the Class M tournament, 6-1.
Under head coach Kim Moretti, Avon finishes the year 8-9 overall and 0-7 in the CCC West Colonial division.
