Simsbury Minor Division baseball team advances to state finals

The Simsbury Little League Minor Division (ages 9-11) baseball team after winning the District 6 title. Simsbury has advanced to the four-team state finals.

Simsbury’s Minor Division (ages 9-11) baseball team is among the final four teams in the state. Simsbury won the Section II championship to advance to the state finals with a 5-3 win over Farmington on Monday night in Terryville.

Simsbury went 2-1 in the three-team Section II tournament, losing their opener to Farmington, 7-0 before earning a spot in the final with a 13-6 win over Union City.

Simsbury (9-1), which won the District 6 championship with an 11-4 win over Burlington, will play Westport in the four-team, double-elimination state finals in East Hampton. The game is Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Mystic and South Windsor are the other two teams in the finals.

8-10 BASEBALL: Simsbury won the District 6 championship and advanced to the Section II tournament. Southington South beat Simsbury in their opening game,4-2 only to see Simsbury beat Shelton, 9-3 to earn a berth in the Section II title game. Southington South advanced to the state finals with a 10-0 win over Simsbury (8-2).

8-10 SOFTBALL: Central Valley, a team consisting of Canton, Burlington and Harwinton players went 3-0 to win the District 6 championship with a 12-1 win over Thomaston. Central Valley advanced to the Section II tournament, which was hosted in Canton.

Central Valley went 0-2 in the Section II event, dropping a 7-3 decision to Wallingford and a 9-0 decision to Seymour. Seymour beat Wallingford, 9-5 in nine innings to win the Section II title.

MAJOR SOFTBALL: Torrington (8-4) won the District 6 championship with a 12-1 win over East Granby/Granby and advanced to the Section II tournament. Torrington dropped their opening game to Seymour, 6-0 but beat Wallingford, 8-3 to earn a spot in the Section II title game against Seymour. But Seymour blanked Torrington for a second time, 7-0 to advance to the state finals.

Seymour went 1-2 at the state finals, which was won by Fairfield with a 2-1 victory over Groton/Mystic.

MINOR DIVISION SOFTBALL: District 6 champion East Granby/Granby (0-2) lost two games in the eight-team, double elimination state tournament and was eliminated. East Granby/Granby lost to Fairfield, 16-4 in their opener and were eliminated after a 4-3 loss to Berlin.
