Wallingford Little League team shuts out Avon in Section II opener, 8-0

Avon’s Chase Beloin had a single in Wednesday night’s 8-0 loss to Wallingford in the Section II baseball tournament opener for both teams.

NAUGATUCK, July 18 – Pitchers Zach Ginter and Jack Pesta combined to strike out six and limit Avon to one hit as the Wallingford Little League baseball All-Star team beat Avon, 8-0 in the opening contest of the Section II Major Division (ages 11-12) tournament Wednesday night at Peter Foley Field.

Avon (7-2) will face District 2 champion Shelton American on Friday night at 7 p.m. here. Avon, the District 6 champion, will need a victory to remain alive in the sectional tournament. The Section II title game is Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Wallingford took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles from Brandon Golden and James Lynch and an error. Simon Milewski hit a solo home run for Wallingford while teammate Simon Levesque had a three-run home run.

Chase Beloin had an infield single for Avon in the fifth inning to break up the no-hit bid.
