
Avon’s Ian McDonald is tagged out trying to score at the plate in the fifth inning of Avon’s 12-7 victory over Simsbury.
AVON, April 27 – Catcher Jeremy Zarwanski hit a third inning grand slam and the Avon High baseball team had 14 hits as the Falcons beat Simsbury, 12-7 at Buckingham Field on Wednesday in Central Connecticut Conference play.
The Falcons (6-3) won for the third time in four games. Sean Del Gallo was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI while Will Boone was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ian McDonald had a double and a single while Matt Boone had two hits. Justin Olson ripped a two-RBI triple for the Falcons.
Three Avon pitchers combined to strike out seven and scatter seven hits. Kyle Emery pitched five innings to get the victory, striking out four and walking two.

After Simsbury cut Avon’s eight-run lead in half, Jeremy Zarwanski hit a grand slam for the Falcons.
The Falcons took an early 8-0 lead in the first inning. Olson had a two-RBI triple while Will Boone had a two-RBI double. Will Boone had a RBI single to get Avon out in front early. Zarwanski extended the lead to 12-4 in the third inning with a grand slam over the right field fence.
Nate Eberly had a home run for Simsbury (2-4), which has dropped three straight games. Ben Whaley and Matt Zikovich each had doubles for the Trojans, who committed three errors and allowed five unearned runs. The Falcons had four errors and gave up two unearned runs.
Avon returns to action on Friday when they host Farmington in a CCC Central White contest at 3:45 p.m. at Buckingham.
