CANTON, May 4 – Jack Mansur and Ethan Burke each had two hits and a double to lift the Canton High baseball team to a 7-2 NCCC victory over Bolton at Bowdoin Field Wednesday. Warrior hurler Brandon Peters, now 2-0, went the distance, allowing five hits, walking just two and striking out eight in a complete game performance.
Canton (6-4, 5-4 NCCC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Sam Beadle RBI single. The Warriors made it 2-0 in the second inning after Burke doubled and scored on a two-out double from Mansur to left field.
The Warriors extended the lead to 5-0 in the third inning. Two men reached on an error when Nate Fulham’s two-RBI single to centerfield scored two runs. Fulham then proceeded to steal second bases, move to third base on a Bolton error and score on a passed ball. Nick Nempus was 2-for-4 for Bolton (1-9, 0-9 NCCC).
Canton returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Somers for the first of three consecutive games. Canton is at Litchfield on Friday for a non-league game at 4 p.m. and travel to Winsted’s Walker Field on Saturday at 2 p.m. to face Gilbert in another non-league game. The Gilbert game was postponed from Monday due to rain and cold.

Bolton rallies to keep Canton without a win
CANTON, May 4 – Canton’s Katherine Manknowski was 3-for-3 with a two singles, a double and an RBI but it wasn’t enough as the Bolton High girls softball team scored eight unanswered runs to beat Canton, 13-7 in NCCC softball action Wednesday.
Canton (0-11, 0-10 NCCC) was looking for their first victory of the season. After Bolton (2-9, 1-7 NCCC) grabbed an early 4-0 lead, the Warriors scored one run in the first inning and two in the second to trim the lead to one run, 4-3. Bailey Edgren had an RBI single in the first for Canton while Mankowski scored on a passed ball in the second inning.
After Bolton extended its lead to 5-3, the Warriors took their first lead of the game with a three-run third inning. Alexa Szczepanski and Megan Hall led off the inning with singles. Edgren’s single loaded the bases. One run scored on an error and the second came in on a RBI single by Mankowski. Canton took its first lead of the game on a fielder’s choice play off the bat of Brooke Dotson.
Canton extended its lead to 7-5 in the fourth inning. Szczepanski reached base on a single. She stole second base, took third on a passed ball and stole home to give Canton a two-run lead.
But Bolton scored eight unanswered runs to capture their first NCCC game of the season.
Edgren, who was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI for Canton, went the distance on the mound for the Warriors. She allowed 15 hits, struck out four and walked just two.
