HADDAM, September 17 – Abby Charron and Fiona McNally had two goals each as the Canton High field hockey team won their first match of the season Monday with a 4-1 non-league victory over Haddam-Killingworth.
Ashley Huff had two assists for the Warriors (1-2, 0-2 NCCC) while Leightyn Antarsh also had one assist. Senior goalie Jessica Szczepanski made five saves in net to earn her first victory of the season. Canton had a dominating 11-3 edge in penalty corners and put 17 shots on net.
The Warriors built a 4-0 lead before Lindsey Johnson spoiled the shutout bid scoring off an assist from Becca Conti with 8:54 left in regulation.
It was Canton’s first win over the Cougars since October, 2014. The Warriors were 0-6-1 in their last seven games against Haddam-Killingworth.
Canton has opened the season with three consecutive road games. The Warriors dropped a 3-0 decision to Suffield last week and suffered a 2-1 loss at Stafford.

The Warriors will play their first home game of the season on Thursday when they host Somers at 4:15 p.m. on the turf field.
Canton will play four games under the lights this season on the turf field beginning with a game against Suffield on October 2. The Warriors will also host night games against Stafford (Oct. 4), Granby (Oct. 16) and Lewis Mills (Oct. 22).
