FARMINGTON, May 29 – The Avon High girls golf team finished ninth at the 2019 CCC girls golf championship meet at Tunxis Country Club. The Falcons were led by Julia Logan, who finished tied for 20th with a 94.
Avon (7-9, 3-7 CCC West) didn’t qualify for the CIAC state tournament but won their final three matches of the season against Conard by two strokes, 215-219, Newington, 232-234 and Canton, 197-221. Avon’s Stefania Pirro earned co-medalist honors against Conard at Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford and against Canton on their home course, Blue Fox Run. Eric Hoffman led the Falcons this spring.
Canton (0-13-1) didn’t win a match under coach Matt Brintle this spring but did battle to a 210-210 tie with Suffield in April at Copper Hill Golf Club. Canton’s best score of the season came in a 187-195 loss to Mercy in Portland on May 21.
The Warriors play an independent schedule since the NCCC doesn’t sponsor competition in girls golf.
