Of note: Avon’s Brendon Mahoney had 10 points in the final 2:24 of regulation and OT but Simsbury sank eight of 10 foul shots in the final 1:20 of OT to beat the Falcons (5-13). The loss eliminated Avon from state tournament consideration while Simsbury snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.

Mahoney hit a three-point shot with 2:24 left in regulation to tie the game at 45-45. Simsbury’s Jack Garner scored with 43 seconds remaining to give the Trojans (9-9) a two-point lead but Mahoney came right back with a drive to the basket with 30.5 seconds left to tie the game.

Tied at 48-48 in OT, Simsbury’s Matthew Watson drove the baseline to score only to see Mahoney respond by scoring after driving past two defenders 10 seconds later. Simsbury’s Tyler Verati hit a corner jumper to give the Trojans a three-point lead but Mahoney responded with a three-point shot with 1:41 to tie the game at 53. Simsbury scored 8of-10 from the free throw line in the final 1:20. The only Avon points in that run was a three-pointer from Jude Turner with 16.5 seconds left to cut the lead to one, 57-56 but Simsbury kept sinking foul shots.
