Richmond relief pitcher Darien Smith struck out three Hartford hitters in the ninth inning to help the visiting Flying Squirrels earn a win at Dunkin’ Park. Hartford trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the ninth and brought the potential game-tying run to the plate but could not capitalize Smith struck out three Yard Goats hitters. Smith allowed just three hits over 5.2 innings of relief to earn the win. Hartford’s GJ Hill had two hits and four RBI for the Yard Goats, who led 4-1 through four innings.

Dylan Longwell hit his first Double-A home run but the Hartford Yard Goats fell to Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-4 at Dunkin’ Park. The Flying Squirrels scored the first four runs of the game, including three in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Longwell crushed a solo home run, his first in Double-A, cutting Richmond’s lead to 4-3. The Yard Goats trailed 7-4 entering the bottom of the ninth but were retired in order by Flying Squirrels reliever Tyler Vogel.  Richmond opened the scoring in the top of third when Sabin Ceballos hit an RBI-single off Yard Goats starter Alberto Pacheco, giving the Flying Squirrels a 1-0 lead. The Flying Squirrels scored another run on a bases loaded walk, making the score 2-0. Charlie Szkowny scored on a sac-fly from Adrián Sugastey, extending the Richmond lead to 3-0.

Cole Messina crushed his first home run of the season as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-5 at Dunkin’ Park. The win was the Yard Goats first of the series and snapped Richmond’s 10-game winning streak. After Richmond scored the opening run in the top of the second, Yard Goats catcher Cole Messina hit a two-run home run that capped a four run bottom of the second for the Yard Goats. Yard Goats starter Konner Eaton pitched four solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five Richmond hitters. Richmond scored a run in the ninth with a bases loaded walk, but Davis Palermo including Scott Bandura with the bases loaded to close out the game. Palermo entered with no outs and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, he struck out three of the four batters he faced to earn his first save of the season.

Hartford’s Bryant Betancourt homered for the second straight game but the Yard Goats fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 13-11 on Wednesday night at Dunkin’ Park. All nine hitters in the Hartford lineup tallied a hit, as the Yard Goats scored 11 runs and recorded a season high 16 hits. The Flying Squirrels (10-1) trailed 11-8 heading to the top of the ninth but scored five runs with two outs in the ninth to take a 13-11 lead. The Yard Goats (4-7) brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but could not score.

Betancourt crushed his fourth home run of the season and second in back-to-back games, making the score 10-8 in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Torres cranked his first home run of the season to left field, in the bottom of the eighth, extending Hartford’s lead to 11-8. The Flying Squirrels scored four runs and took the lead in the top of the ninth. First, Ahuna hit an RBI-double, making it an 11-9 ballgame. Then, Scott Bandura hit a three run double, giving Richmond a 12-11 lead. Finally, Diego Velasquez hit an RBI-double, extending the Richmond lead to 13-11.
