Sabrina Ionescu had a season-high 36 points and 11 rebounds while Jonquel Jones had 21 points as the New York Liberty snapped a four-game losing streak with an 87-78 win over the Connecticut Sun Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Emma Messeman had 11 for the Liberty (18-10) in her first WNBA appearance since game 5 of the 2022 WNBA semifinals playing for Chicago against Connecticut. Tina Charles led Connecticut (5-22) with 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Aneesah Morrow had 16 points, a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks. Bria Hartley scored 12 points with four assists while Marina Mabrey scored 10.

The Yard Goats offense came alive early, plating five runs in the first two innings to power them to a 7-1 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils in front of 6,219 fans on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin’ Park. Roc Riggio opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Charlie Condon hit a bases-clearing triple in the second inning before Riggio added another run with an RBI single to put Hartford ahead 5-0. Jared Thomas blasted a solo home run in the seventh, and Cole Carrigg capped the Yard Goats’ scoring with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, guiding them to a 7-1 victory over Reading. Yard Goats starter Michael Prosecky was brilliant. He went six innings and allowed just four hits and one run while striking out four. The right-hander retired the final eight batters faced while working a Double-A high six innings and earning his first Eastern League win. The Yard Goats won their second straight home series taking four of six games from Reading.

The Yard Goats swept Reading in a doubleheader on Saturday night in front of 7,240 fans at Dunkin’ Park. Hartford won both games by a run, and got out of two bases-loaded jams in the final inning of both games as well. Jared Thomas led the Yard Goats as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the two games combined. Thomas is hitting. .326 since joining Hartford in July. The Yard Goats will try to win the series against Reading on Sunday. In game one, Hartford staring pitcher Ben Shields retired the last 14 of 17 batters he faced with four strikeouts on just one hit. Shields finished his outing with five innings pitched, two earned runs, and four strikeouts. Reading loaded the bases down 4-3 with only one out in the top of the seventh, but Yard Goats reliever Carson Skipper came in and recorded the final two outs of the game, clinching the win. In game two, Reading took an early 3-0 lead. The Yard Goats fought back with two runs in the bottom of the first. Cole Carrigg rocked a leadoff homer to the second deck in right field off Fightin Phils starter Mitch Neunborn. Julio Carreras drove in Jared Thomas on a sharp single to center field, cutting Hartford’s deficit to 3-2. Thomas tied the game in the fourth when he drove in Riggio on an RBI single, and later scored on a Carreras groundout to give the Yard Goats a 4-3 lead. Carreras boosted Hartford’s lead on a sac bunt in the fifth, followed by an RBI groundout from Nic Kent to extend the Yard Goats lead to 6-3. Reyes hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to put the Fightin Phils within a run. Yard Goats reliever Evan Shawver got out of a bases-loaded jam to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Sun (5-21) held New York to its lowest number of points this year in a 16-point over the defending WNBA champion Liberty at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Marina Mabrey finished two assists shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, season-high tying eight assists, and two steals. Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Leila Lacan both scored 16 points off of 6-of-8 shooting in the victory coming off the bench. Lacan made a career-high two three-pointers. Tina Charles finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a season-high three steals. With 15 points in tonight’s game, Charles passed Jonquel Jones into seventh all-time in scoring in Sun franchise history. She now has 2,661 points in a Sun uniform in her career. New York (17-10) lost their fourth in a row.

Yard Goats starting pitcher Connor Staine worked six solid innings but the Reading Fightin Phils put together a two-out rally in the ninth inning to tie the game, and scored four runs in the 10th inning for a 6-3 win on Friday night at Dunkin’ Park. Cole Carrigg gave Hartford an early lead with a leadoff single in the third inning, and then stole second and third base before stealing home to make it 1-0. The steal of home was his 40th of the season, the first Yard Goats player to steal 40 bases. Hartford stole six bases as a team. The Yard Goats will host Reading for a doubleheader on Saturday at 5 p.m. Staine was dominant for the Yard Goats. He went six innings and allowed just four hits and one run, his longest outing of the season. The right-hander retired the first seven batters of the game and 11 of the first 12 Fightin Phils.

The Yard Goats rolled to an 11-0 shutout win against the Reading Fightin Phils on Wednesday night at Dunkin’ Park. Hartford’s offense came early, with eight runs on 10 hits in the second inning, including a three-run home run by Cole Carrigg, who also established a new single-season franchise stolen base record of 37. Starter Sean Sullivan earned his ninth win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out six. Victor Juarez and Welinton Herrera finished the game as the Yard Goats picked up their third win in the last four home games. The Yard Goats exploded in the second inning, sending 13 batters to the plate, and scoring eight runs. Two of the runs came on a Nic Kent two-run RBI double to center off Fightin Phils starter Wil Crowe. Bryant Betancourt and Braylen Wimmer scored on the play to give the Yard Goats a 2-0 lead.

Second baseman Nathan Lincoln (Canton) left the Blues after the team’s win over Pioneer Valley on July 19. Lincoln, who played at Marist, hit. 301 in 35 games for the Blues with three doubles and 16 RBI. He had seven stolen bases.

Jared Thomas homered and Charlie Condon smashed an RBI double to give the Yard Goats a 2-0 lead before the Fightins made their move. Phillies prospect Carson DeMartini homered and drove in three runs, while Hendry Mendez capped the night with a grand slam in the ninth inning sending the Yard Goats to their third straight loss. The Yard Goats got on the board first on a solo home run by Jared Thomas off Reading starting pitcher Jean Cabrera. Thomas cranked his second Double-A homer into the left field seats.

Seattle’s Nneka Ogwumike had a game-high 26 points and three assists while Storm teammate Skylar Diggins had the first triple double of her career (11 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) as the Seattle Storm rolled to a 101-85 win over Connecticut Monday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Seattle (16-11) shot 60.9 percent from the floor and had 30 assists, the most by a Sun opponent this year. Bria Hartley had 17 points for Connecticut – her fifth straight game in double figures. Tina Charles and Jacy Sheldon each had 11 points while Olivia Nelson Ododa had 10. Charles had two assists to become the only player in WNBA history with at least 8,000 points, 4,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists. The Sun are now a league-worst 4-21.
