Host Reading hit four home runs in a 6-3 win against the Hartford Yard Goats on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium. Reading starter Brayden Tucker struck out 10 over five innings to lead the Phillies (4-5), who won four of the six games in the series. Hartford (4-5) returns to action on Tuesday at Dunkin’ Park when they host the red-hot Richmond Flying Squirrels, who have won eight straight games.
Hartford took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Andy Perez led off with a double, stole third base, and scored on a throwing error by Jordan Dissin. A pair of home runs gave Reading a 3-1 lead before the Yard Goats (4-5) cut the lead to one in the sixth inning on back-to-back two-out doubles. Aiden Longwell cracked a double to left center field and Connor Capel followed with a double, scoring Longwell to make it 3-2.

Jack Mahoney fired five scoreless innings and relievers Carlos Torres, Blake Adams, and Fidel Ulloa finished the final four innings as the Yard Goats shutout the Reading Fightin Phils 3-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Outfielder Skyler Messinger drove in the first run of the game with a single in his first Double-A at-bat and he doubled and scored in the eighth inning. Bryant Betancourt cranked a two-run homer to right field in the eighth inning as Hartford stopped a three-game losing skid. The Yard Goats will try to split the six-game series and road trip finale on Sunday.

Eric Calvillo, Tony Alfaro and Diego Abitia scored in the first half for the visitors while Gabriel Torres added a second half goal for El Paso (4-0-1). Hartford slips to 2-1-3 in USL championship action.

Hartford OF Conner Capel blasted a go-ahead three-run home run in the fourth inning, however, Reading responded with a three-run shot by Bryson Ware in the sixth inning, and the Fightin Phils defeated the Yard Goats 9-6 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Hartford had a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning before Reading scored four runs to win its third straight game. Aiden Longwell had a two-run double for the Yard Goats and starting pitcher Konner Eaton left with a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning. The Fightin Phils scored the first run of the game on Alex Binelas’ solo home run in the third inning, his third homer this week. The Yard Goats took a 4-1 lead with a four-run fourth inning capped by a three-run homer by Conner Capel. Braylen Wimmer started the rally with a double, and Cole Messina tied the game with an RBI double to make it 1-1. After a walk to Roc Riggio, Capel cranked a long home run to right field, giving Hartford a 4-1 lead.

Austin Murr cranked a two-run walk-off in the bottom of the 10th inning leading the Reading Fighting Phils to a 3-2 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The home run came with the Fightins trailing the Yard Goats 2-1 in extra innings, and helped Reading defeat Hartford for the second straight game. Yard Goats starting pitcher Jake Brooks recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. The right hander has 20 strikeouts over his first two starts of the season. He retired ten in a row, and 14 of 15 batters from the first through fifth innings before yielding a game tying homer to veteran Alex Binelas. The Yard Goats took a 2-1 lead on Roc Riggio’s two-out double in the 10th inning, scoring Jose Torres from third base. Hartford had the bases loaded in the inning but could not push another run across. Austin Murr answered for Reading in the bottom of the inning, and smashed a two run homer over the right field fence off reliever Victor Juarez for the 3-2 win.

The Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 3-1 on Tuesday night in the first game of a six-game series in Reading, Pennsylvania. Hartford starting pitcher Eiberson Castellano worked six innings, allowed just one run and had four strikeouts earning his first win as a Rockies farmhand. Bryan Betancourt homered, Braylen Wimmer had two more hits, and Victor Juarez earned the save in the Yard Goats’ first road game of the season. Yard Goats starters are 3-0 and have allowed only three runs in 22 innings this season.

UConn (34-5) will play for a national title for the third time in four years after a suffocating 71-62 victory over Illinois (28-9) on Saturday night at the Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Huskies held the Illini’s No. 1 ranked offense under 34 percent from the field and had six players score seven or more to improve to 7-1 all-time in Final Four semifinal games.
A late Illinois charge got the Illini back within four twice inside of the final five minutes but the Huskies showed their will to win and answered every blow. Tarris Reed Jr. led the Huskies with his third double-double of the NCAA Tournament, posting game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off his iconic moment in the Elite Eight Braylon Mullins scored 15 points and knocked down four 4-pointers, including the game-icing troika inside of the final minute. Solo Ball joined them in double-digits with 13 points, knocking down three from distance.

Yard Goats starting P Jack Mahoney and relievers Michael Prosecky, Carlos Torres and Victor Juarez limited the Orioles affiliate to just two runs in the rubber game of the three-game series as the Yard Goals won 4-2 before 5,794 fans at Dunkin; Park. Cole Messina and Jose Torres each had RBI doubles and Aiden Longwell contributed with an RBI single helping the Yard Goats win their second straight game. The Yard Goats (2-1) begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday in Reading, Penn., and return to Hartford on April 14 to host Richmond. Mahoney pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 hits and two runs, retiring eight of nine batters at one point. He struck out four.

MIAMI, April 4 – The Hartford Athletic battled Miami FC to a scoreless tie. Hartford (2-0-3) nearly struck in the 17th minute as Sebastian Anderson fired a rocket towards goal that was desperately turned away by goalkeeper Eloy Room. Miami FC (2-1-2) nearly scored in the 43rd minute with a hard shot up the middle. However, Hartford G Antony Siaha stood tall in goal to keep the score deadlocked. In the 45th minute, Siaha stopped a header from crossing the goal line off of a corner kick. In a quiet second half, both teams battled it out with Miami FC almost breaking through in stoppage time. In the 93rd minute, Miami FC had a point-blank chance to crack Siaha but came up empty, keeping the score at zeros aside.

HARTFORD — OF Braylen Wimmer had four hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to led the Yard Goats to their first win of the season. Yard Goats starter Konner Eaton fired six scoreless innings. Andy Perez had three RBI, and delivered a two-run double as part of a five-run sixth inning for the Goats (1-1). Relievers Cade Denton and Fidel Ulloa worked the final three innings. Yard Goats first baseman Aiden Longwell cracked a two-run double to left field, scoring Roc Riggio and Braylen Wimmer to give Hartford a 2-0 lead. Hartford added a run in the second inning on Wimmer’s two-out single and then made it 5-0 with two more runs in the third inning knocking Herberholz from the game.

The South Carolina women’s basketball played stifling defense and had Ta’Niya Latson score a team-high 16 points with Agot Makeer adding 14 to lift the Gamecocks to a dominating 62-48 win over UConn on Friday in the NCAA semifinals. With the win, South Carolina (36-3) snapped UConn’s 54-game winning streak and advanced to the Sunday’s NCAA championship game. UConn (38-1) entered the Final Four undefeated for the ninth time in school history and for the third straight time left without a title. The Huskies also lost in the 2017 and 2018 national semifinals after coming into the game undefeated.

The Yard Goats fell behind 3-1 and Zach Kokoska cranked a two-run homer to tie the game in the seventh inning. The Yard Goats had the potential winning run on base when the game ended. The Baysox took a 5-3 lead with on Thomas Sosa’s two run homer in the eighth inning against reliever Sam Weatherly. The Orioles affiliate added two more runs on a pair of bases loaded walks and it was 7-3.

Rhode Island’s JJ Williams had a goal and assist to lead Rhode Island FC to a 2-0 victory against Hartford Athletic in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament Wednesday night at Centerville Bank Stadium. Rhode Island reaches the round of 32 for the second straight year. Rhode Island struck in just the 12th minute as Kevin Vang’s corner kick from the right side was headed down by Williams into the center of the box where Aldair Sanchez fired home on the half-volley to give the hosts the lead. Williams added a second on the half-hour mark off another set piece when Pity Rodriguez’s corner from the left came to the center back at the back post, and his header just crossed the line before Hartford could clear, giving RIFC a two-goal halftime lead.
