Eiberson Castellano fired six scoreless innings, Stu Flesand III went three scoreless and Bryant Betancourt and GJ Hill each homered as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Altoona Curve 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin’ Park. The Yard Goats took four of six games against the Curve and have won 10 of their last 13 games to lead the Eastern League’s Northeast Division. Hartford will start a six-game road trip in Portland, Maine on Tuesday and return home to Dunkin’ Park on June 9th.

Playing their first game in Hartford since 2003, the Sun won their second game of the season with a 84-81 win over Los Angeles at PeoplesBank Arena before 10,478 fans. Aneesah Morrow had 17 points and 14 rebounds while Kennedy Burke came off the bench with 14 points and three blocks.

Altoona scored three times in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeated the Yard Goats 5-2 on Saturday night in Dunkin’ Park. Yard Goats righty Jack Mahoney returned to the mound from the injured list, and fired three scoreless innings. Griffin Herring followed with two scoreless. Dyan Jorge was off and running, swiping three bases and now leads the club with 18 stolen bases. The Yard Goats remain in first place with the Fisher Cats loss to Somerset.

Goalie Anthony Siaha had two saves as Hartford Athletic battled visiting New Mexico United to a scoreless tie in USL Championship play Saturday night at Trinity Health Stadium. It is his fifth shutout of the season. Hartford (3-2-5) held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first half and had several chances to score. Hartford finished with an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. New Mexico is now 4-4-2.

Connor Capel and Benny Montgomery smashed home runs leading the Yard Goats to a 6-5 victory over the Altoona Curve in front of 6,594 fans on Friday night in Dunkin’ Park.   Reliever Andrew Baker struck out three consecutive batters with the bases loaded to end the game for Hartford.  The Yard Goats’ win, combined with the Fisher Cats’ loss, put the Yard Goats back in first place in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division.

Ashley Reyes scored in second half stoppage time to clinch Hartford Athletic a thrilling 2-1 victory over Hudson Valley Crusaders (1-2-1) in United Soccer League W League action on Friday night at Trinity Health Stadium. Hartford (2-0-2) sits in first place in the Northeast Division standings. After a pair of tries earlier in the match, Taylor Jenkins rippled twine for Hartford in the 56th minute as her header off of a corner kick found the back of the net, making a 1-0 edge for the hosts. In the 64th minute, Hudson Valley knotted the score at one aside as Abigail Danso also finessed a header in off of a corner kick. After a slew of chances for Hartford in the late going, Reyes found the back of the goal mount in stoppage time off of a slick feed from Rebeca Frisk to lift Athletic to a 2-1 victory. In goal, Lana Gibbs made three saves. Hartford owned advantages in shots (14-7) and corner kicks (4-1).

Benny Montgomery and Jimmy Obertop each homered in the Harford Yard Goats 7-6 loss against the Altoona Curve at Dunkin’ Park. The Yard Goats played as the Hartford Rock Cats as part of a tribute to the former New Britain Rock Cats franchise. Hartford’s RHP Jake Brooks made his 10th start as a Yard Goat and gave up four earned runs, two home runs and had two strikeouts on the night. Productive fifth inning for the Yard Goats with Benny Montgomery hitting a two-run home run, then Jimmy Obertop followed up with a solo homer.

The Hartford Yard Goats scored a run in the eighth inning en-route to a 4-3 victory over the Altoona Curve  at Dunkin’ Park. Aidan Longwell singled home Andy Perez with two outs putting the Yard Goats in front for good. It was Hartford’s fifth straight win and seventh in eight games. The victory moved the Yard Goats into first place in the Northeast Division. Eiberson Castellano was solid in six innings and the bullpen of Andrew Baker, Griffin Herring, and Carlos Torres closed out the game.

Gabby Williams scored 15 points and former Sun draft pick Kaila Charles added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Golden State Valkyries ran away from the Connecticut Sun for a 97-70 win on Monday night. The Sun fall to 1-7 on the season. Aneesah Morrow came off the bench to contribute 11 points and 10 rebounds for Connecticut. Charles was Connecticut’s second round draft pick in 2020, 23rd overall, and played with the team for two years. Williams was a star at UConn before moving onto the WNBA.


 

Runners dig in to try and get position at the start of the boys 800 meters during a recent Farmington and Avon track and field meet in Avon. Farmington beat the Avon boys by two, 76-74 while the Avon girls beat the River Hawks, 85-65.
