The Yard Goats smashed four home runs and came back to beat the Reading Fightin Phils 7-4 on Sunday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Cole Messina, Jimmy Obertop, GJ Hill and Bryant Betancourt all homered helping the Yard Goats close out the first half with a series win, taking four of six games from the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate and improving to 10 games above .500 (39-29) at the conclusion of the first half of the Eastern League season. The Yard Goats, who clinched the first half Northeast Division title and postseason berth, return home to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday (7:10 PM) to host the Boston Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs.

Hartford P Connor Staine pitched into the seventh inning and allowed just three runs but the Yard Goats lost to the Reading Fightin Phils 3-1 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Yard Goats but were held to just one run on Benny Montgomery’s RBI single. Hartford’s Conner Capel had a pair of hits including a double and Braylen Wimmer extended his hit-streak to 16 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the Eastern League, and tied for the second longest in club history.

Athletic goalie Antony Siaha made two saves to earn his league-leading seventh shutout of the season as Hartford battled to a 0-0 tie with Pittsburgh in USL Championship action at Trinity Health Stadium. Siaha made a strong save on a long shot in the 52nd minute just before Hartford’s Michee Ngalina had a Grade A try a minute later that came up empty. Ngalina had another prime shot in the 60th minute that was stopped by Pittsburgh goalkeeper Nico Campuzano. Siaha came up big in the 76th minute, blocking a far-sided shot from the visitors to keep the score deadlocked. In the 90th minute, Ngalina had an identical try in close on Campuzano that was denied. Hartford (4-6-2) pitched a shutout for the third consecutive game. Campuazano had four saves for Pittsburgh (6-2-4).

Hartford center fielder Conner Capel has hit five home runs in the past two games. Capel hit a pair of two-run home runs on Thursday night to help the Yard Goats beat Reading, 10-6 and close in on an Eastern League playoff berth. Hartford (38-27) leads Somerset (36-30) by 2½ games with three games left in the first half of the season, which ends Sunday. The winner of the first half of the season secures a spot in September’s Eastern League playoffs. Capel hit three home runs and drove 6 RBI on Wednesday against the Phils. On Thursday, he was 3-for-5 with two home runs and 5 RBI. Roc Riggio was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a home run while GJ Hill also hit a homer for Hartford. Reading led 5-4 after six innings but the Yard Goats outscored Reading (28-38) in the final three innings, 6-1.

A RBI single from Anthony Foley gave Tri-Town a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Waterbury tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice.

The win cuts the magic number for Hartford to clinch the Eastern League’s Northeast Division title to three with four games remaining in the first half of the season, which ends on Sunday. Hartford (37-27) has a 1½ game lead over Yankees affiliate Somerset (36-29). Capel tied a franchise record for home runs (3) and RBI (6) in a single game while leading Hartford to their 10th win in the last 12 games. Capel is just the third Yard Goats player with three HR in a single game and the first to do it since 2023. Yard Goats pitchers Jack Mahoney, Fidel Ulloa, Austin Smith and Cade Denton held the Fightins to just two runs. Hartford’s Braylen Wimmer extended his hit-streak to 14 games with an RBI single in the third inning. Hartford scored four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Capel and an RBI double by Cole Messina. Capel smashed a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

Aiden Longwell cranked a go-ahead three-run home run and relievers Stu Flesland III, Carlos Torres, and Andrew Baker fired 7.1 solid innings as the Yard Goats defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 6-5 on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The win combined with Somerset’s loss in Portland lowered Hartford’s magic number to clinch the Eastern League’s Northeast Division to four with five games remaining in the first half race which ends Sunday. The Yard Goats trailed 3-0 before scoring four times in the fourth inning, highlighted by Longwell’s 10th homer of the season. Hartford’s bullpen allowed just two runs in 7.1 innings of work. Roc Riggio had three hits, including two doubles, a triple and drove in two runs. The Yard Goats are trying to reach the playoffs for the second time in three years.
